Frequently asked questions
You can join our group at any one of our new members events or auditions. Visit the events page to find out more about when these are likely to come up.
It may be possible to join during a rehearsal period if you have missed one of our new members events or auditions. If you miss an audition, it is very unlikely that you will be able to join and go straight into acting, but there's plenty to do to help with a performance. Contact us to find out more.
Anyone over the age of 8 can join the group. Note that some performances are not suitable for children, but this will be well publicized leading up to the event.
Be advised that, though we do our very best to support the safeguarding of minors - with appointed officers and policies in place - it is the responsibility of parents or guardians to ensure that care is provided and we strongly encourage parents to remain with their children during rehearsals.
CBTG welcomes well behaved children, but be advised that repeated poor behaviour could result in a child being denied participation in a show.
Parents may be required to support back stage, depending on the show and our volunteers availability.
It's a social event - no commitment and simply a place where you can meet the team and discuss face to face what it's like to be part of the group. If you attend an audition and accept a part, this can be quite the commitment - however at a new members event, its a good way to get a feel for the vibe without committing yourself to anything. There may also be a chance for you to discuss things with the director for an upcoming performance or even a chance to view the script! This is also perfect for those who want to be involved, but aren't looking to be on stage, to see what sort of production support roles may be available.
We highly recommend attending this event if you're planning on coming along to auditions, especially if you're new to acting - however attendance is not a requirement to participate in an audition.
Remember - you do not have to book to attend this event, just show up on the date and time stated!
Every audition is different, as each audition is managed by the director of the performance which changes from show-to-show.
Generally, you will be asked to get up in front of a few people in the group and perform a piece against the part you wish to audition for. However, ultimately it would be down to the director of the show how the audition is performed.
For pantomime...
You may be needed to take part in a group audition - especially for chorus parts.
You might be asked to sing - although that should be made clear before you audition, we are fully aware that singing isn't for everybody, so we'll give you a heads up for any roles that might need you to perform a solo and you can choose whether or not you are happy to be selected for a specific part.
Some extra notes...
We'll never ask anybody to do anything they're not 100% comfortable with, but do expect some encouragement if you're on the fence.
Please make it clear if you're not looking for a casting role, but would still like to take part in the performance. We'll always do what we can to accommodate everybody - whether that's non-speaking roles or production support (back stage, etc.).
Auditions can be scary, but don't worry. Every member in the room has been through the same thing at some point - and every person in the room is experiencing the same emotions! We do this for fun, and you should have fun too!
You may not always get the part you audition for, and not everyone is guaranteed a part in the performances. However, even if you don't get a part - please don't feel bad and don't feel as though you can't take part in the production.
Remember, auditions are open events - no need to book or call ahead, just turn up!
